Jamie Oliver taught viewers of his cooking show Keep Cooking and Carry On how to make pasta from just flour and water now that there’s a shortage amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The TV chef created the show as a quick response to Covid-19, aiming to help those stuck at home to cook with the little they have.

He makes sure to include things you find at the back of your cupboard into every meal, including canned beans, canned tomatoes and rice.

The first episode had the chef immediately jump into his quick chilli recipe, using ingredients almost every household has: canned beans, canned tomatoes, fresh peppers, spices and trusty rice.

He then quickly moved on to creating pasta… from scratch, and you only really need one item.

The method is easy, so follow and enjoy:

  1. Add flour into a bowl (the amount depends on the number of people you’re cooking for)
  2. Add a splash of water
  3. Mix the two ingredients together with a fork – if it’s too sticky, add more flour
  4. Once shiny and not overly sticky, it’s already done.
  5. Roll it out until it’s thin
  6. Dust with a little bit of flour and roll out again.
  7. When it’s shiny and not too sticky, it’s done
  8. Cut the pasta into half a centimetre thick slices.
  9. Toss pasta between hands
  10. Add to boiling water

And voila! Simple as can be.

Jamie created two separate pasta sauces, one he dubbed ‘peasto’, another simple tomato sauce and a carbonara.

His homemade pasta comes after many have been panic buying essential items, leaving no toilet roll, hand sanitiser, pasta and other essentials for people doing their normal weekly shop.

Now we just have to hope we can buy flour in supermarkets.

Jamie Oliver’s Keep Cooking and Carry On is on every weekday this week at 5:30pm on Channel 4.
